October is my favorite month of the year—it is that golden month when the leaves are changing and the air is getting crisper. Since we moved to Boulder, I’ve been looking forward to driving over to visit my parents in October to see the high mountain fall colors, and we did just that this weekend. Driving over Independence Pass was an absolute revelation of Fall! I loved it! Here’s a peek, accompanied by a poem I stumbled upon last week. Enjoy! Hope you’re having a chance to get outside in your part of the world and see something magnificent!

by Robert Frost

O hushed October morning mild,
Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
Tomorrow’s wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.
The crows above the forest call;
Tomorrow they may form and go.
O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow,
Make the day seem to us less brief.
Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
Beguile us in the way you know;
Release one leaf at break of day;
At noon release another leaf;
One from our trees, one far away;
Retard the sun with gentle mist;
Enchant the land with amethyst.
Slow, slow!
For the grapes’ sake, if they were all,
Whose leaves already are burnt with frost,
Whose clustered fruit must else be lost—
For the grapes’ sake along the wall.

    I love the gold of those trees.

    Autumn is my favorite month too. I was lucky enough to see the beginning of the high mountain fall colors a few years ago while on a road trip – happy to see even more of them here!
