My New Animation : : Do You Know What Makes Your Heart Sing?

Some months ago, I wrote some words, a poem of sorts, on something that has become very important to me—the idea of letting your heart sing. I intended to make the words into a little book, and I tinkered with them over some weeks, but I never could get them exactly right. I got a little frustrated and decided to let the words rest, not sure when (if ever) I would pick them up again.

Then last month after I made my first animation, I thought of those words again and realized that they would be the perfect next step in my animation experiments. And so I embarked on a new animation adventure—to bring those word to animated life. Thus began many hours of me hunched over my desk, drawing by hand and drawing by computer, to bring this little heart-singing story to life.

There were many moments both grand and humbling (as I say in the film) in this process, but while making it I realized that I was living out the vision of the animation itself—my heart was most definitely singing as I worked. And that fact reminded me why I wanted to share these words so much—they are the essence of why I do what I do. It is the heart-singing that has kept me going these last three years and will keep me going many more.

And so, I would like to say this, loudly and clearly: do what makes your heart sing—even if everyone thinks you’re crazy, and it seems highly impractical, and even you think you’re crazy sometimes, and even if you never make a cent at it. Do it for love. Do it for the pure heart-singing-ness of it. That is reason enough!

Now, without further ado, here it is—my little heart-singing animation. I hope you enjoy it!

My heart was singing all weekend, but I didn’t think of it in those terms till just now. I agree with Charmaine and look forward to what’s yet to come, here and from my own heart. :)
