A Green Leaf

I’ve been playing around with Gouache and a black pen today—and so, I present to you :: a green leaf—

When I was in high school, I was a total arty—I did art like other kids played basketball. Hanging out in the art room (and then darkroom) was really where I felt most like myself and most powerful and calm. I remember my teacher showing me this technique of painting first and then drawing with ink on top, and now I thought I’d try my hand at it again.

It’s fun and scary to pick up my paints—you may have noticed that most of my work these days is ink drawing, so like everything you don’t do often {but have many qualifiers on how it “should” turn out} it takes a little bit of overcoming to get started. But once you get going, the qualifiers can drop off, and if only for a little second you get to make something and feel free and good.

I’m wishing everyone out there the courage to take that little step and do something fun that you haven’t done in a long time.

You are so right Nicole. I MUST start drawing again even though it scares me because I’m crappity crap at it! Whenever I look at drawings I love, I get this terrible ache that tells me I NEED to draw despite my terrible misgivings.
