A Mountain Adventure {in papermation!}

Some months ago, my husband Mike and I got it into our heads that it would be fun to make a papermation movie (kind of like claymation, but with paper). So, one Saturday afternoon, we got down to business with a pad of construction paper, a shoebox, a set of portable lights, and a camera.

We really have absolutely no experience in this, so we didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into—multiple hours later, we were still moving our little characters across the shoebox with a different photo for each tiny step, and arguing over how to stand the figures upright. We were completely sick of the project by the end of the photography part, so weeks turned into months, before we finally compiled the photos into a little movie just this past weekend.

After all the procrastination, it was worth it to compile it (which really was the easiest part of the project—it took approximately 30 seconds with Quicktime). It’s a cute little film if I may say so myself. No music or anything, and it goes by in a flash for all the time it took to make, but fun nonetheless. The story of the movie is of me, Mike, and our dog Lance going to the mountains for a hike. We drive from the city to the mountains in our white car, and then get going on foot. It happens very quickly, but you might notice how Lance the dog runs off without us, and we meet up at the car after our separate hikes! This is very true to form for Lance, although he’s gotten to be more a part of the pack with age. Anyway, take a looksee and enjoy!

    I will have to show this to my son! He has made a couple of stop-motion movies and was working on a few animations before his computer became infected with several viruses! He will love it!
