A Wedding Drawing

I feel like I’ve been a bit absent on this blog over the last couple of weeks, and I have to say it has been for a good reason. For some quite lucky mystical reason, the month of May so far has been the month of the commission for me—a handful of different commissioned drawings have come my way recently, and it’s been pretty fun to get to work on them! Isn’t it amazing when that happens? All of a sudden, out of nowhere, something starts coming your way?

The first piece, that I just finished up, was a wedding drawing. As you can imagine, I was quite honored to be asked to do a drawing for such a special occasion—a gift for the bride and groom from a dear friend. After talking it over a bit, some images of lotus flowers came up for the drawing, and this is the direction we ended up going in. Here’s the final drawing, currently on its way to being framed and gifted next month:

“The Jewel is in the Lotus,” 5 x 7 inches, pen and ink

I really liked the themes that came up around this drawing (thanks to the dear friend who commissioned it)—to me, the lotus flower symbolizes what’s possible and beautiful in a relationship—the core of the relationship—the thing you can turn to even when times are tough. It seems like the key is to remember that it’s there.

What about you? What do you think is the key? I’ve been married just shy of 8 months, so I always love to hear what other people have experienced.

Have a wonderful day!

To me, it’s all the words you can say, the depth of feeling, the energy — all in silence.
