Talking About the Weather

We are having amazing, transcendent weather here in Davis, California. I say transcendent because it is the kind of weather that makes you lose all track of everything else. If there is anything in this world that can make me lose track of myself instantly, it is air, wind, and sunlight. And then, of course, there are the blossoms:

Every year, it is the same—one day, all of a sudden (seemingly way too early) there are blossoms. And every year I am equally amazed and surprised and in love with them. I’m fairly positive, if I looked back to last February, I would find another blog post very similar to this one. What can I say—they make me gasp with delight.

While enjoying this wonder weather over the last few days, I have been feeling so lucky to live where I live and get spring so early! It is the counter to all of the whining I do about the heat all summer long (so hang in there if you’re still knee-deep in snow—your time will come). But while I’m here in this blossom season, I will appreciate it!

“Sometimes I need
only to stand
wherever I am
to be blessed”

—Mary Oliver, from the poem “It Was Early”
{appears in the collection Evidence}

    Seriously, it must be catching. I just posted some photos of ladybugs from my backyard. Yay Spring! Great photos, Nicole. Glad you’re enjoying it.

    Blossom time is my favourite time of year! I don’t know how many times I almost drove off the road last spring because there was so much amazing blossom EVERYWHERE!

    Ooo…so jealous! I’m still freezing here in Italy…waiting for Spring and those first blossoms still!

    Oh you, hanging that little blossomed bough in front of my face, might make me follow it out to California!
