Back to Indie Sac

I will be selling at Indie Sacramento again this Saturday! If you’re in the area, stop on by!

This flowering season

Everywhere I go here in Davis, CA, the trees are flowering. I find them quite gaspingly beautiful, so I thought I would share that with you:

Spring arrives quite early over here, so for all of you with snow still on the ground—hang in there, I’m sending it your way! Also, to make you feel better, we’ve been having rain every day, so it’s not all glorious sunshine and flowers yet–although I think the blossoms have been encouraged by the wet weather.

Be kind to yourself & a few good women

Tonight, I am reminded of the simple idea “be kind to yourself.” As I always say, this simple thing is harder than one might think—in fact I usually remember it mainly when I am not being kind to myself. So tonight, I was working on a drawing, and when the end product was not as spectacular as I was hoping, I started digging myself into a hole, not speaking very kindly inside my head.

In order to dig myself back out, here I am on the blog—reminding myself, by reminding all of you, to treat yourselves nicely. Also, there are a few good women, who might say the same thing, if they had a chance to talk:

I seem to be amassing quite a few images of strong and interesting women. Above is a view from my office/studio—the top of my dry erase board to be exact.

Actually, four out of five of these images was sent to me by my cousin Rose—a woman who shares my excitement for art and design, and also loves Wonder Woman (she actually dressed up as Wonder Woman a few years ago for Halloween, and was very convincing). The two black and white cards are for St-Germain Liqueur, and the little Rosie the Riveter is a card I picked up from Jed Alexander.

I love surrounding myself with these creative images that make me laugh and feel empowered. There will be another day at the drawing board soon—hopefully, with a little kindness to myself (and from the ladies above), I will have a drawing of my own to share!

Shop Update

Yesterday, I finally got myself in gear and got almost everything I have made recently (and even a while ago) into my shop. I’ve been procrastinating quite badly, so it felt good to get things organized. If you’ve been reading this blog, you’ve probably seen most of the items, but here’s one that I did a couple months ago, but never posted:

“Happy Little Tree,” 6 x 6 inches, pen and ink

This was just a fun little drawing of the baby Italian Stone Pine I bought as our Christmas tree this year. I am hoping I can keep it living for many more seasons to come so I don’t have to go buy a chopped tree. Check out my shop to see all the new items! Most are originals. Thanks for looking!

Some Thoughts

"That's the big question, the one the world throws at you every morning. 'Here you are, alive. Would you like to make a comment?'"
