Saving the World

I feel lucky to have found out about Arthouse Coop, an alternative gallery in Atlanta, GA. I am participating in a very cool project/show called The Sketchbook Project where they have sent 500 mini sketchbooks to artists all over to be illustrated on the theme “How to Save the World.” The gallery will be showing all 500 in an exhibit at the end of the summer.

My slant on this theme is “30 Ways to Save the World,” with an emphasis on small things we can do in our own lives to become a better person and therefore save the world one person, maybe even one thought, at a time.

My sketching has been a lot of fun, and I find that the sketchbook project is giving me lots of great ideas for larger pieces. Here are two 8×10 drawings that came out of those small sketches/drawings.

I haven’t mentioned it officially in any posts yet, but I am working on setting up an Etsy shop, and I am planning to make prints of these two drawings as part of my first shop listings . . . so stay tuned . . . my shop will hopefully be up in the next week.

(Poetry)

My friend over at E.R.R.A.N.T inspired me to share some poetry on my blog with her post So long May! that includes a lovely e.e. cummings poem and beautiful photos she took in the greenhouses where she works.

I recently started a monthly poetry appreciation group that is so much fun. We hang around and talk about great poems– I highly recommend starting a group if you have any interest at all. Poetry is talked about and appreciated so infrequently, and who wouldn’t want to sit around talking about what the word “windfall” means? Everybody’s gotta be a nerd at something, and I am a word nerd. Without further ado, the wonder-full, mystical, genius e.e. cummings:

since feeling is first
who pays any attention
to the syntax of things
will never wholly kiss you;

wholly to be a fool
while Spring is in the world

my blood approves,
and kisses are a better fate
than wisdom
lady i swear by all flowers. Don’t cry
–the best gesture of my brain is less than
your eyelids’ flutter which says

we are for each other:then
laugh,leaning back in my arms
for life’s not a paragraph

And death i think is no parenthesis

More Blooms

This week’s Illustration Friday word is “baby,” so I thought I’d make some more geometric blooms. They are fun to make, especially in varying sizes.

By the way, how do you like my new banner? It’s hot of the Adobe Illustrator press!

Some Thoughts

"That's the big question, the one the world throws at you every morning. 'Here you are, alive. Would you like to make a comment?'"
